During this very sad time you may be asking ‘Do I need to give my staff paid time off for the Queen’s funeral?’
Monday 19th September 2022 has now been announced as a Bank Holiday in honour of the Queen.
This does not automatically mean paid time off has to be given to your staff members. Your first point of call in making your decision should be your employment contacts as the wording in these may dictate the answer to you.
If your employment contract states 20 days holiday plus Bank holidays, then you must honour the bank holiday no matter how many that may be within the year.
However, if your employment contracts states 20 days plus 8 days Bank holiday or 28 days holiday inclusive of Bank holidays you are not required to honour the extra day, you can of course do so if you wish.
