10 Year Anniversary
10 Years of Omnia
From zero to £500m turnover
What began with two borrowed desks and an ambitious idea has grown into a £500 million business. Over the past decade, Omnia has reached major milestones, welcomed talented people, supported thousands of contractors and built lasting relationships across the industry.
Here is how the journey unfolded.
2016
The Omnia journey begins
Omnia is officially incorporated by Jay Pittaway, Dale Simkiss and Iain Herron. The business begins life with two desk spaces generously provided by a friend’s IT company. From there, the founders start developing Omnia’s systems and processes and welcome the company’s first employee.

2017
Building strong foundations
Omnia continues to grow, moving into its first dedicated office and expanding to a team of five.
By the end of the year, the business is supporting 14 clients and has reached its first major financial milestone: £10 million in turnover.

2018
A significant step forward
Omnia secures its first major client and successfully transfers more than 200 contractors ahead of the new tax year.
Turnover more than doubles, exceeding £20 million, and Omnia becomes a sponsor of local football club Reading FC.
It is also a memorable summer of football, although England’s World Cup journey ends in semi-final heartbreak.

2019
Steady, sustainable growth
Omnia continues to grow by focusing on the fundamentals: doing the simple things well and delivering a dependable service.
The team moves into a new office, complete with a much-loved outdoor space.
Away from the office, Dale and Sophie complete the Reading Half Marathon in support of Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, which provides care for Dale’s son, Jude.

2020
Unprecedented change
The COVID-19 pandemic changes the way businesses and communities operate almost overnight. Working from home and video calls quickly become part of everyday life.
It is also an incredibly difficult year for the Omnia community, as the virus takes the life of valued client and dear friend Lee Nurse.
2021
The new ‘normal’
Hybrid working becomes the new normal, while offices and London’s streets gradually begin to get busier again.
Omnia is now paying more than 1,500 contractors, making the team’s annual Christmas drop-offs a considerably larger operation.
The company also brews its own beer and achieves FCSA accreditation for both Umbrella PAYE and CIS, marking another important step in its commitment to compliance and industry standards.

2022
Reaching £100 million
The company becomes an American Express partner, receives invitations to Wimbledon and the Houses of Parliament, and celebrates Lou’s fifth anniversary with the business.
2023
The beginning of a new era
After previously declining several approaches to sell the business, Omnia completes a management buyout led by Darrell Mott.
Darrell joins forces with co-founder Jay Pittaway to oversee the company’s transition into its next chapter.
Sean White joins as Managing Director and establishes Omnia’s Sheffield office alongside new team members Grace and Darby.
The Omnia brand also begins appearing at Premier League football grounds.
2024
New leadership and new milestones
Co-founders Dale Simkiss and Iain Herron leave the business after playing an instrumental role in establishing Omnia as a respected name within the industry.
Omnia becomes SafeRec Certified, making it one of the first umbrella companies to hold both FCSA accreditation and SafeRec certification.
Annual turnover reaches £200 million, while former professional footballer and media personality Jimmy Bullard — “The Bulldog” — joins the Omnia journey.
Darrell and Jay attend MIPIM, securing new client relationships, and the team enjoys memorable occasions including the Statom Ball and England’s run to the UEFA Euro 2024 final.
2025
Growth, recognition and acquisition
Omnia is named a finalist for Best Umbrella Company at The Contracting Awards 2025, having grown to support more than 3,000 clients.
The company establishes a partnership with IN-Sync to help contractors prepare for Making Tax Digital and is recognised by Grant Thornton as one of the UK’s top 25 privately owned businesses.
Omnia also completes the acquisition of Churchill Knight and becomes a Capital on Tap business partner.
The team celebrates achievements beyond the workplace too, as Omnia’s Mitchell Smith wins a boxing title and colleagues return for another memorable evening at the Statom Ball.
2026
10 years strong
Steven Roberts joins Omnia as Chief Technology Officer, while Joshua Richards is appointed Strategy and Systems Manager.
Ten years after beginning with two borrowed desks, Omnia reaches £500 million in turnover.
It is an achievement that reflects the work of the company’s people, the trust of its clients and contractors, and a decade-long commitment to doing things properly.
And there is much more still to come.
